LOCAL JOBS FOR CARPENTERS & LABOURERS:

Cortes Island Seniors Society is seeking more Labourers & Carpenters to join our local team for building 4 new Seniors Housing Units.  Full-time and/or part-time positions available for anticipated start date of May 2020 through December 2020.  Rates of pay will be based on skills, experience, and the Collective Agreement of our contractor Kinetic Construction Management.

Job descriptions as follows:

Ticketed Carpenters/Carpenters (full-time or part-time):

Working collaboratively with the Site team, our Carpenters are responsible for:

- Working safely on site at all times and promoting safe work practices
- Following the direction of the Site Superintendent and Foreman to ensure work is completed effectively and efficiently
- Contributing to building quality projects on time and on schedule

Successful candidates will have:

- Minimum 5 years’ construction experience on a variety of projects including specifically working on commercial and institutional sites
- Red Seal Carpenter’s ticket, be actively engaged in Carpentry Apprentice program, or interest in apprenticeship (all levels of Carpentry experience welcome)
- Ability to work within a collaborative team atmosphere
- Excellent Blueprint reading skills and the ability to work in both Metric and Imperial concrete formwork and framing
- Clear verbal and written communication skills

Labourers (full-time or part-time):

This position requires working on construction project sites, assisting the Superintendent and Skilled Tradespersons while also performing labouring activities. Labouring duties include performing tasks involved in:

- The physical labour of a building project
- Operating hand and power tools of a large variety as necessary
- Site preparation and clean-up

- Positive, can-do attitude
- Natural willingness to pitch in and do what’s needed to help get the job done
- Physical capability to safely perform the work on site (i.e., lifting, carrying, standing, walking, kneeling, etc.)
