SRD NEWS RELEASE March 23, 2020 - COVID-19 SRD Park Closures & Reminders
Campbell River, BC – To help stop the spread of COVID-19, protect residents and encourage social distancing in our community the Strathcona Regional District (SRD) is taking additional precautionary measures by closing some of its parks until further notice and reminding residents to comply with social distancing. SRD parks & facilities CLOSED due to nature of park use and facilities within them:
Mitlenatch Park - Electoral Area D
Hagel Park - Electoral Area D
Maple Park Community Garden - Electoral Area DCortes Island Skate Park - Electoral Area B
Blenkin Park Facilities (playgrounds, swings, tennis/basketball court and skatepark) - Electoral Area C
All other SRD parks and trails remain OPEN at this time.
While enjoying all other SRD parks, trails, beach accesses and wharves, please remember to practice social distancing, by staying at least 1.8 meters or six feet apart from other park users. Preliminary studies have shown COVID-19 can live up to three days on plastic and steel surfaces. Please take extra precautionary measures and practice self-sanitizing if touching public surfaces such as rails, handles etc.
If you are feeling unwell or have been in contact with someone that has tested positive for COVID-19, please do not visit SRD parks and trails at this time and self-isolate at home.
This is a regularly evolving situation, with changes on a day-by-day and even hour-by-hour basis. Information will be shared as it comes available at: www.srd.ca/COVID-19
and on SRD social media channels. The Strathcona Regional District will continue to follow the advice of the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Provincial Health Officer.
