The Brain 101 with Hayley Newell, RTC. Your brain - the organ central to your nervous system - is a fascinating and complex machine. There are many MANY fascinating things to learn, far too many for one talk. So, in The Brain 101 we will start with learning the four key threats to the brain; what they are, how this relates to your day-to-day life and why it is useful to understand them. 

Folk U Friday Talks are every Friday from 1 to 2:30 at the Linnaea Ed Centre. Bring your lunch & your curiosity. Tea provided. All welcome (designed for the 12 to 112-year-old mind). This winter Cortes Literacy and Cortes Island Seniors Society bring a series on health and wellness.

February 21: Chronic Pain is a Pain with Jenn Wilson, Somatic Bodyworker/Chronic Pain and Mental Health Advocate. This class will cover current research and methods around managing chronic pain, navigating the medical system plus some exercises and meditations that can help improve quality of life.


February 28: Your Happy Back with Sean Lymworth, RMT. Think back pain is just something you have to suffer through? Join Sean for a presentation on back health and some gentle demonstration on techniques to help from his seven years treating back pain, among other things, as a massage therapist.

March 6: DIY Probiotics 1 with Norm Gibbons, fermenter extraordinaire. Think probiotics come best in pill form? Think again. Learn the importance of probiotic rich food and how to make…. kimchi and saurkraut. (It’s so important, this topic kicks off a 3-week mini-course. Come for one or all!)

March 13: The Microbiome with Maureen Williams, ND. The importance of tending your inner ecosystem with Maureen William, ND.

March 20: DIY Probiotics 2 with Norm Gibbons. Learn the principles of probiotic drinks and how to make beet kvass, vinegars, and kombucha.
