The SRD Grant in Aid Service is funded by property taxation. Each of the four Rural Areas has a quota that in Area B is $25,000 and habitually exhausted, long before end of the year. The draining leaves nothing in reserves to cover emergencies or other eventualities.

The Christmas spirit of giving has lately been seen in the Kyuquot‐Nootka/Sayward (Electoral Area 'A') where individual recipients will be happy and most appreciative for the GIA approved spending coming their way this month.
All credit to the foresight of Director Whalley for, as an Area A letter says, keeping his 'nose to the ground’ . He did not deplete his GIA funding budget for the year and was able to provide a generous grant at Christmas time for some of his constituents.

---from the December 5, SRD Board Minutes, in part:
Whalley/Leigh: SRD 1125/19
THAT the Board approve a $1,000 grant in aid to the Sayward Legion, Branch #147 Secret Santa Program for Christmas gifts and food hampers to be paid for by the Electoral Area ‘A’ grant in aid budget.
CARRIED.
