The Regional District has applied for a Community Resiliency Investment grant to help mitigate wildfire risk for Cortes Island by:
• developing a Community Wildfire Protection Plan for Klahoose First Nation;
• updating the 2011 Cortes Island Community Wildfire Protection Plan; and
• obtaining a fuel management prescription for portions of Hanks Beach Forest Conservation
Park and Crown land adjacent to the Cortes Island recycling centre.
I would like to thank the Cortes Fire Department, Klahoose First Nation and the Cortes Forestry General Partnership for their support on this proposed project.
Wish us luck.
