We're nearing the end of December, and we still really need your support!

Please consider making a donation to the Family and Youth Programs of the Cortes Community Health Association. Every little bit helps!

To make a donation you can write a Cheque (payable to the Cortes Community Health Association) with a memo: Youth and Family Programs, or make a cash donation, directly at the Health Centre, Attn: Marilyn Fitzmaurice.

You can also donate online at our website:

www.cortesfamily.ca

simply click on the DONATE button and under FUND select “Family and Youth Programs November Appeal” and fill out the online form.

Thanks for supporting families and youth on Cortes.
We all wish you a festive and beautiful holiday season!

Sincerely,
Jodi Peters

(Details about our programs below)

We currently offer five programs to the Cortes Island community. We offer three age-specific after-school activity programs for kids ranging in ages from 6 to 17 yrs old. We offer an after -school sports program for youth ages 8 – 15yrs old, and we have a Family Support Program that offers confidential support for families experiencing financial, emotional and health challenges, as well as workshops and seasonal events to support Cortes families in becoming healthy, strong and resilient.

We offer all these programs for free to the community.

Perhaps your child participates in these programs, or perhaps you know families that have been supported by these programs. I wanted to reach out to you and share a bit about our current situation.

Our youth and family programs are not funded through the Island Health Association. We fundraise to cover all the costs of coordination, program expenses, and administration.

In 2017 and 2018, the CCHA Family and Youth Programs saw the loss of over 60% of our funding as major private donors moved away from the area and did not renew their funding. In order to continue to offer our programs to the Cortes community, we are actively seeking donations from individuals and private foundations.

We are a registered charitable organization that can issue tax receipts for all donations above $20. We are hoping that anyone that appreciates programs that enrich the health of Cortes, and programs that support youth and families would be willing to make a donation. We welcome any amount, as every little bit helps. We are hoping to raise $10 000 to ensure we can continue running our programs through 2020.

We see the positive impact that our programs make on families that live year-round on Cortes, families that are a critical piece to making the Cortes Island economy sustainable in the long term. We also see the importance of offering free programming to families, many of which are striving to make ends meet in a remote community that doesn’t have access to many of the family support services found in more populated areas.

If you have family members or friends who might be interested in donating, please also share this with them.

Thanks so much!
