The Housing Committee was formed to make a stable home possible for more Cortes Island residents of all ages and income levels. This year we asked local artists and writers the question: what is home? Then we compiled their answers into a beautifully designed book.
Cortes Community Housing is excited to announce the release of HOME: A Cortes Community Anthology.
This book arose as a way of adding a deeply personal spark to the bricks and mortar that will, in time, comprise new community housing on Rainbow Ridge. It is an offering of love and a testament to the doggedness, innovation, community participation and spirit that enables dreams to come true.
And, here’s the best part: 100% of profits from the book will go toward building community centred, non-profit housing on Cortes Island!
HOME: A Cortes Community Anthology features:
- Essays, poetry, fiction, memoir & visual art.
- Works by 18 talented writers and artists who call Cortes Island home.
- A full-colour cover with gorgeous new work by Lisa Gibbons.
We’ll have limited first edition copies available at Manson’s Friday markets throughout December (or until supplies run out). For those of you who are located off-island, or who want to send gift copies without the hassle of shipping, copies can easily be ordered online here: www.lulu.com/shop/cortes-community-housing/home/paperback/product-24301101.html
Thank you so much to everyone who made this book possible, and a special thank you to Valerie Wernet, the newest member of the Housing Committee and the visionary editor for this beautiful work of art.
It takes a community to raise a village.
With gratitude from Hayley Newell, on behalf of Cortes Community Housing
