Noba Anderson - Regional Dir.
Mary Lavelle has been Cortes’ alternate director for 5 years, including one year when she stepped up to all Regional District board meetings while I was on maternity leave. Mary recently informed me that, due to her family’s circumstances of off-island high-school, she would no longer be able to serve in this capacity. I want to offer a warm gratitude for Mary’s assistance to me and service to the Island.
The opportunity has forced me to look hard at emerging local leaders who might welcome the role, and after a few very positive prospects, I am delighted to announce that Corry Dow is your new Cortes Alternate Director. You may know Corry from the Food Co-op Cafe, but it has been her service with the Community Forest Co-op and Partnership that has most caught my attention. I have long admired her clear and fair-handed leadership and wholeheartedly welcome her into this role.
When you see her, please do congratulate her, especially given her willingness to step up in this way at this particularly topsy-turvy time in local politics. She will be filling in for me at the Regional District for the first time in a few days while I, and a Cortes team of 6, am at the Rural Island Economic Forum on Pender Island.
