Butchering Basics: A Folk U Field Trip & Workshop

11-3 BlueJay Lake Farm. (If possible, gather 15 minutes early at base of the BlueJay Lake Rd and we can drive up together to save wear and tear on the delicate-and rough-road.)
$15/$10 Fee* (see below)

Max & Heidi will guide you through the ancient art of killing, skinning, gutting, plucking animals. We will be processing chickens but the same principles apply to animals of all shapes and sizes. We'll discuss food safety, animal welfare, storage strategies and more depending on interests. This is a hands-on workshop and your efforts are part of your entry fee: so come prepared to work please. Bring a sharp knife, clothes that an get wet/bloody (perhaps rain gear), and pack a lunch.

Max and Heidi are successful homesteaders who believe more in doing it than in doing it right. (They truly embody the Folk U philosophy of resilience through sharing!) They empower amateurs to find their own way and do their own research and gladly share their experiences with doing things differently.


BlueJay Lake Rd is off Squirrel Cove Rd. just east of the Whaletown Rd Y.

$15 fee/$10 for 2018-2019 Folk U Class Pass holders. Registration is encouraged (please email ufolku.ca or call Manda at 250-935-0111). If this amount presents a hardship contact Manda for additional work bursary options.
