So do we.

But it’s more fun in community.

Folk University—the people’s university of Cortes— is looking for helpers and workers and teachers. Youth as well as adults are strongly encouraged to apply.

Opportunities:

Advertising Executive. Work required: Posting on website and Tideline all Folk University events, occasionally designing posters, and posting events on social media. Pay: Abysmal: $15 to $20/week and a free 2019/2020 class-pass.

Folk U Friday Host. Work required: Help “host” Folk U events, especially Friday lunchtime speaker series: set-out chairs, introduce speakers, etc. Pay: Same as above.

Folk U Librarian. There are a couple hundred children books that remain from Linnaea School. We need help going through these books, organizing them, and creating a system so that the books can be lent-out to Cortes families. Pay: $200 for entire project.

Folk U Professors. Folk U Friday Lunchtime Speakers are neighbours that share their interests and passions with their neighbours. Know how to build a great chicken coop, can you teach anybody math, or know about the geology of the region? Sign-up to share with your neighbours. Pay: $50 class. Have something more complex to share: how to build a website, sew a purse, or construct a gate? Partner with Folk U to host a four to eight week workshop: we organize and you teach.

Movie Nights & More. How fun would it be to know that every Friday there was something to do at Linnaea: movies, games, story-telling, etc. Would you be interested in curating a monthly movie night or other regular entertainment on Friday night? What would be the theme? I’ve got over 100 DVDs and Folk U has a projector and screen. You can host and even make a little money. Pay: $200 for an 8+ week series.

Support Groups. There is so much we can do, learn, and be together. Currently forming are mental health support groups, climate resilience groups, book clubs… but what about jam nights, more book clubs, parenting groups and more… have a way you’d like to help support or share with your community? Let the structure of Folk University help.
