On August 25th, Cortes Community Housing partnered with Glass Moon Ice Cream to celebrate the tenacity and wild beauty of the blackberry. Our Blackberry Bash Ice Cream Social fundraiser was a huge success, thanks to overwhelming community support! It was wonderful to spend that Sunday together, in celebration of our shared vision to create affordable rental housing on Cortes Island. Once again reminding us:

It takes a community to raise a village!

Here’s how it all added up:

· 4 gallons of island blackberries picked and donated by housing committee members
· 25+ litres of blackberry ice cream prepared especially for the event
· More than 100 people entered the custom ice cream raffle
· Over 150 ice cream cones sold
· 2 wonderful local musicians, Michael Keith and Mateo Tomlinson, donated their time & talents.
· $1200 raised in support of the Rainbow Ridge affordable housing project.

The winner of the custom ice cream raffle, Ruth Riddell, loved the blackberry theme so much that she wanted more! She was delighted with her flavour of choice, and now has enough Blackberry Lemon Curd Swirl ice cream to share with friends and neighbours.

If you missed this event, then you can still learn more about the affordable housing project by exploring www.CortesCommunityHousing.org or visit the Co-op Cafe where we are featuring the results from two Housing Workshops at a special exhibit during the month of September.

Thank you from your Housing Committee
