What Really Matters

It’s a life long question. The answers keep changing as we age, as our perspective keeps broadening and our focus keeps deepening with the passage of time, along with wisdom gained by experience.

If you agree that home matters greatly, that Cortes Island matters, then the Cortes Community Housing Initiative is without doubt, the single most important project happening at this time that can positively affect our whole island community.

Due to the great influx of summertime visitors, many year round rentals have been converted to vacation rentals. There is not enough rental stock for young families who could otherwise contribute to the island’s vitality. Not enough homes for those who wish to down size. Prices are outside of the scope of too many.

If we cannot build affordable rentals for locals, then Cortes stands to become a tourist island devoid of so many long term residents both young and old. We are so close, but this summer we need to generate $275,000 to set Rainbow Ridge on the winning path for a BC Housing grant to make this dream and necessity become a reality.

What matters? Cortes does. What matters? Home does. This project does. Affordable year round housing for local residents does!

Every online donation during the month of June automatically enters us to WIN $10,000 from Canada Helps during their Great Canadian Giving Challenge!
