Departs from Cortes Bay Dock
10:30 am-5:00 pm
Friends of Cortes Island’s (FOCI) Marine Stewardship Program is dedicated to long term environmental monitoring of marine ecosystems on Cortes Island and surrounding waters. The Sensitive Marine Habitat Mapping Program’s ‘3 Reefs’ project was initiated in 2000 and is working towards Marine Protected Area status for three local reef systems: Marina Reef, Sutil Point Reef, and Hernando Reef.
Join FOCI’s Marine Stewardship Coordinator, Sabina Leader Mense, onboard the Misty Isles, for a low tide exploration of this… intertidal wilderness! Weather systems will determine which reef system we can access, but no matter where we set ashore, the habitat and species diversity of these reef systems will boggle the mind of any terrestrial dwelling explorer.
Come along to learn about the interstitial space, 30 million-year-old ice age sediments, shorebird habitat, the octopus’s garden, the singing fish, and so much more!
Cost: $130 plus GST, with optional lunch for an additional $15 plus GST.
Booking Essential: Contact 250 935 6756 to book your spot.
