The Old Schoolhouse Gallery Opening Night, Friday 24, 2018 featured “LAYERS” showcasing the works of Ester Strijbos and Janny Thompson.
Ms Strijbos demonstrates her incredible fine taste again with an ample selection of bowls, platters and new, ceramic wall clocks. Her sense of colour and coordination with surrounding items as well as floral arrangements makes her the queen of coordination. The bowls and platters look like they would satisfy your hunger and virtual tastebuds even before you begin to eat.
Ms Thompson is very accomplished with mixed media mono prints. She combines the traditional gelatin mono print some times with collage and pen work. The opening photo, for instance, is a matrix of pieces from gelatin prints, paper doilies, and white pen work.
The artists’ statement provides us with an insight to their work in this exhibition: “Experimenting with layers -of colour, texture, media, stencils, decals, -in our work allows us to create depth, to conceal and reveal, to obscure and to expose.”
Sales for the first part of the show were very brisk and kept both of the hosts busy placing red sale stickers on the works of both artists. But not to worry, there is still a very good selection available. Please come and see this show this Saturday and Sunday, August 25, 26 -2 to 6 PM
Friday August 31, 6 to 9 PM
At 6:30 Monica Nawrocki will read her short story about a tugboat. The story accompanies Ester’s tugboat platter. After the reading Janny Thompson will demonstrate the gelatin mono print procedure.
The Last Days of this show and the season will be Saturday and Sunday the 1st and 2nd of September.
