Dear Islanders,
The rumours are true. I would like to be your Regional Director. Again!
I want to to thank all the people who have supported me in reaching this conclusion: asking me, encouraging me, and even saying “Why would you ever do THAT again?!”
The reasons are many, but primarily, I really did enjoy being your Regional Director for 9 years (’96-05). The meetings, the conversations, the lobbying: locally, provincially, and federally, but mostly representing and taking care of the integrity of this island we love so well. I have the experience. I have the skills. I am passionate about the issues. And, as many of you know, I love talking to people!
I first came to Cortes Island in 1972 and have been witness to many ebbs and flows of development, as well as social and ecological changes. Cortes needs to be very strong, in particular, at the Regional level to maintain its hard-won autonomy. I will put Cortes Island’s well-being first.
The official campaign period starts on Sept 22, but I look forward to starting to listen to your ideas and concerns regarding the future of Cortes before then.
The election is on Oct 20 and there will be opportunities for advance polling (Oct 10) and mail-in ballots. There is more information on voter eligibility on the Strathcona Regional District website:
https://strathconaregionaldistrict.civicweb.net/document/3520To make this change, to become your next Regional Director, I will need your support. If you don’t know me, let’s get to know each other. If we are already acquainted, let’s get to know each other better. I can be reached by phone at 250-895-0772 or email at natureboytwincomm.ca or PO Box 363 Manson’s.
Your Natural Choice,
George Sirk
