Enjoy Capt. Vancouver's “spa” in Teakerne Arm aboard Misty Isles, a day cruise sponsored by the Cortes Museum on Thursday, July 19. Sail up Lewis Channel and past where Capt. Vancouver anchored his Discovery into Teakerne Arm, for a close look at the waterfall emptying out of Cassel Lake. Go ashore for a hike up a steep, rocky trail to the lake. You will need sure-footedness on the trail and a bathing suit and towel if you wish to swim in the sparkling lake. Great views for scenic photography! Along the trail, you will find interesting artifacts left from pioneer logging and stunning views above the falls. In Lewis Channel, there may be an opportunity to raise the red sails on Misty Isles. There may also be time to poke into inner Squirrel Cove.
Dress for the weather, bring sunglasses, sunscreen, swimsuit with a towel, and your picnic lunch. Don't forget your camera! For those coming from off-island, pre-arranged shuttles between the Cortes ferry and Squirrel Cove dock will be provided by volunteers for a small donation towards fuel. The boat leaves at 10:30 a.m. from Squirrel Cove public dock – arrive early. Cost for this day cruise is $130 (GST included). For more details or to register contact Cortes Museum at cimastwincomm.ca or 250-935-6340.
