CFGP - Corry Dow
The Cortes Community Forest
is proud to announce
Community Firewood Day
Saturday June 23rd 10 Am to 4 PM
Our goal is 100 truckloads of firewood delivered FREE
At the Cortes Community Forest, part of our mandate is to supply the island with firewood. Since we have a limited amount of firewood available this spring, we are hosting an event to improve broad community access.
If you are a winter resident who is physically challenged with the heavy work of firewood (senior, adult with health concerns or single parent of a young child), we want to deliver a truckload (about 1/2 - 2/3 of a cord of un-split rounds) to you --- FOR FREE!
If you are eligible and would like to receive firewood, please contact our Firewood Coordinator, Corry Dow at 935 6800, or corry.dowgmail, with your name, phone number (or email) and address. We will draw for the winners if more applications are received than we have the capacity to deliver. Registration deadline: June 21, 2018.
We need volunteers to get this done!
If you have a truck – we need you. We also need willing hands to help load and unload trucks. Please register by June 21st with our Firewood Coordinator, Corry Dow at 935-6800, or corry.dowgmail - indicate if you are bringing a truck. The number of trucks that we get out on the day will determine how many names we can draw for deliveries – so please register.
Volunteers will receive a free truckload of firewood at the end of the day. (One load per household).
Volunteers will also each get a coupon for a coffee and cookie from the Cortes Natural Food Co-op, and be entered in a draw for great prizes including Gift Certificates for meals and massages.
Please Note: Offering gas money to your delivery team would be kind, but is not required. Everyone who will receive a firewood delivery will be contacted on Friday June 22 to confirm address and delivery details.
Free Use Firewood Permits will still be issued after June 23. The remaining supply will be limited.
The Cortes Forestry General Partnership is an equal partnership of the
Klahoose KF2LP and the
Cortes Community Forest Co-operative.
Splitting & Chopping
Comment by Jenny Wilson on 22nd June 2018
What a great thing! As a person who isn't always physically able to handle my wood chopping (due to painful inflammatory disability) it occured to me that it would be really helpful if there were a second stage to this firewood donation program.
Has anyone considered setting up some volunteers who could split and chop the wood for the folks who are unable to do it themselves? If this is already set up, please forgive my eager posting. :)
Thanks again for offering this to the community.
And if you know a senior...

That won’t see this notice, please put their name in the draw for them! Great initiative!
