PARKSVILLE – An interface wildfire is currently burning in grass and heavy timber on Read Island, approximately 20 kilometres northeast of Campbell River.
Airtankers have completed action and one three-person Initial Attack crew and an intermediate lift helicopter are working on the fire at this time. A Response Officer is onsite with another three-person Initial Attack crew and helicopter on their way to the fire.
The two hectare fire is approximately 50 metres from cabins and winds in the area are hampering fire suppression activities.
Tomorrow will see nine Initial Attack crew personnel, one five-pack of fire suppression personnel, two fallers, two intermediate helicopters and first aid personnel on the fire site.
Thank you for your assistance in the distribution of timely and accurate fire information.
