Andy MacKinnon, forest ecologist, talks about two of his favourite kingdoms: plants & fungi! This is a special community presentation to celebrate the BioBlitz! 2018 weekend. Not to be missed!
Andy MacKinnon, professional forester, is recently retired (2015) from three decades of work with the Ministry of Forests Lands and Natural Resource Operations (MFLNRO), where he was responsible for ecosystem classification and mapping, a program of forest ecology research focused on old-growth structure & composition and research into the effects of climate change. Andy has also been involved in defining and implementing ecosystem based management in Haida Gwaii and BC’s Central Coast and is co-author of six best selling books about the plants of western North America.
Andy MacKinnon is BioBlitz! 2018’s featured guest researcher and Andy will be in the Children’s Forest with Cortes youth from noon Saturday, May 5 – noon Sunday, May 6 taking inventory of the diversity of flora, as part of the Forest Trust for the Children of Cortes Island’s (FTCCIS) ongoing research program.
