Refuge Cove Exhibit in the Cortes Museum is held over the summer!
General News · 22nd April 2018

We are pleased to announce Refuge Cove: Moving With the Tide has been held over for another summer!

The exhibition fills the main gallery and features iconic paintings by Judith Williams, archival photographs, diaries, and videotaped conversations with some of the Cove residents.

You are also encouraged to visit “the workroom” where you will find information gleaned from previous displays, an exhibit featuring First Nations’ tools and baskets as well as a preview of next season’s exhibition. In October of 2018, the Cortes Museum plans to celebrate our 20th anniversary beginning with a nod to Cabinets of Curiosities or Wunderkammern (wonder-rooms).

Christian Gronau (geologist, blogger, and curator of past exhibits) has just finished creating one of these Curiosity Cabinets and installed it in the workroom. It is filled with a great variety of items-from mysterious natural history specimens to strange artifacts. Numerous versions of these old-fashioned spaces in the past eventually evolved into modern museums.

We would love to receive any of your ideas about this theme by email at cimastwincomm.ca.

Please also email us or phone the Museum at 250-935-6340, if you have any interesting items or glass-fronted cabinets we could borrow to round out this future exhibit.
