Twin Island Kayaking with Misty Isles.
General News · 23rd June 2017
Gina CIMAS
The Cortes Island Museum invites you for a three-day kayaking adventure with a taste of island life, July 13/14/15. Misty Isles Adventures is the guide for daily kayak outings to see places like the Hollyhock educational retreat for a lunch of local fare and a tour of its lush seaside garden.
Cortes Day, with sports, food and artisan vendors on Smelt Bay Park’s sandy beach, is another kayak destination.

The base camp for this program is historic Twin Island lodge, a place fit for royalty—literally. This rustic lodge, a retreat built by an industrialist in the 1930s, was later owned by titled German royalty who entertained Queen Elizabeth II here for several stays. Overnight accommodation on Twin Island is a new, and exclusive, feature of Misty Isles/Cortes Museum trips.

Kayakers will paddle the Cortes Island shores and among small islands inhabited by seals and myriad seabirds, including oyster catchers, diving ducks and eagles. Misty Isles’ guides delight in sharing their passion for the natural and human history of this place, past and present.
