So many thank-yous to my friends and neighbors for your direct generosity of food, visits, cards and good wishes since the birth of our daughter Zyla at the end of February. Being a mother has been a heart-expanding experience like no other and our little girl is healthy and strong and oh so happy to be alive. We are very blessed.
I also want to really thank all the rest of you for your professional patience while my Regional Director work is scaled back in this 'maternity leave' time of early motherhood. The Strathcona Regional District board is still working through the details of my leave as this is new territory for all of us (SO few moms of wee babes in elected politics). What I do know is that my alternate Mary Lavelle and I will continue to share the role through the end of September with her attending most, if not all, Regional board meetings in town and also supporting me to a lesser, but still very appreciated, extent with my Cortes-based constituency work. This means that I will continue to be engaged in more complex matters and generally be on hand but that Mary will cover as she is able. She can be reached at alt.director.lavellegmail.com or 250-935-0235.
The next local government election will be in the fall of 2018 and I commit that by next spring, after being a parent for a year, I will decide if I intend to seek re-election.
Because of all of you, and all of this, there are very few better places on earth to raise a child. In utter gratitude for calling this home and the honor of serving you all.
