We are back at it again, and 2017 is looking like another fun filled, creative, and engaging year for all youth to participate in programming centered around The Children's Forest!

We meet every Friday 3:30-5:30 pm in the Lakeview room at Linnaea Farm The first hour includes outdoor exploration and nature observations, cooperative and theater games, and working on a song to be preformed February 18th, for the Cortes Radio Lip Sync event. (Much thanks to Dan Peters, who once again comes to our aid in assisting us with a great song!)
In the second hour there is an option for youth to participate in a theater production or to join in an arts class.

Information about the Art Class:
We are excited to offer a new dimension to our program with the young aspiring artist in mind. Beginning Friday January 20, artist Krista Smith (BFA Honours), will begin leading program participants in an exploration of a variety of art mediums including drawing, painting, mixed media collage, paper cache sculpture, as well as found object and environmental art installation. We will use the Cortes Island Children's Forest and species at risk as inspiration for our art making adventures. All Cortes children and youth are welcome to join in the fun. We may even exhibit our finished work at local venues to help spread awareness of the Cortes Island Children's Forest Initiative. Children 8 years and under need to be accompanied by a parent or other responsible care provider. Please call Krista at 935-0329 or email yoga_arthotmail.com to pre register. We would like to ask for a donation of $10 per child per month to cover supplies, but children will not be turned away due to lack of funds.

Information about the Theater:
Beginning January 20th, we embark on the adventure of "Stumped!", a murder mystery. Guests are invited to visit the magical Childrens Forest, but when the ferry is lost at sea and the captain goes missing, trouble is afoot. The characters are a mix of natural elements found in our forest and also the shady types like climate change, oil spills, and deforestation!
Starting on Friday, we are beginning to script the play. This program is offered to youth 10+, and with it we need a solid commitment from parents as we would like to take this show on the road, touring it to schools on Vancouver Island. To register or for more information please contact Ashe at ashebielagmail.com or call me at 935-6734.

We would like to put out a HUGE THANK YOU to the Linnaea Farm, for their generosity and support of our community program. Thank you for hosting us, we are deeply enjoying the beauty and good vibes out there!

Stay tuned for lots more youth programming to come in these next few months, as the forest thaws out we will also be hosting outdoor educational and naturalist programs. And you are always welcome to join us the first Sunday of every month, as we trek thru the Childrens Forest and observe whats happening out there.

These programs are offered in support of The Forest Trust for the Children of Cortes Island. Check us out at: www.corteschildrensforesttrust.org
