Three harbours now have water piping installed so if there is a fire on a boat the fire crew doesn't have to run a hose down to the floats from the pump truck. The pump truck hooks up to the piping at the top of the wharf and the firefighters connect a hose on the float. Many thanks to fire chief Mac Diver for his cooperation in making sure all the fittings worked. Manson's, Squirrel Cove and the Gorge Harbour are all outfitted.
The rebuild of all the Cortes Bay floats are now complete in addition to all the anchors and chains being refitted. After years of negotiating, with Andy Ellingsen taking the lead, we finally are successful with the first phase of the project. Next phase - a new ramp? This was the first major project by our new Harbour Manager, Jenny Hartwick, and she did an excellent job. While the construction was taking place Jenny found a ring on one of the floats. Someone dropped the ring and while they may have thought it fell though the boards to the bottom of the sea, it actually landed on a float. She spotted the ring under a foot of water. We have the ring for someone to claim.
We are happy to say the tender for the used float went to a Cortes Bay resident.
