Special guest speaker: Alison Watt, author, artist and MIST volunteer.Alison Watt
is an artist and writer with a thing for islands. She lives on Protection Island, near Nanaimo. As a young woman she worked as a seabird researcher on Triangle Island, which is located off the northwest tip of Vancouver Island. Many years later, she wrote a book about that experience, “The Last Island, a Naturalist’s Sojourn on Triangle Island.” On her boat "Circadian", Alison and her husband sailed the Pacific and explored the B.C. Coast. Through the years, she has sailed the Strait of Georgia, the Central Coast, Haida Gwaii, and Alaska as a naturalist aboard the historic schooner, "Maple Leaf".
Her presentation at our AGM will take you to some of her favourite islands, finally lingering on the island jewel lying a stone’s throw away from Cortes - Mitlenatch. Alison first came to work on Mitlenatch as a young seasonal park naturalist and has returned for a week each summer as a volunteer warden for nearly twenty years.
