CCHA - Marilyn
The CCHA is pleased to announce that a new Group Practice of doctors has started working on Cortes this week. The team of four doctors has contracted with Island Health to deliver primary healthcare at the Cortes Community Health Centre for the next year. They will arrange a rotating schedule among themselves to provide year round coverage.
The doctors in the group are: Dr Mary-Jo Woolgar, Dr Jenna Creaser, Dr Nick Bartell, and Dr Ellen Anderson. Dr Creaser is currently working the first 3 week assignment, and a schedule for the rest of the year will be posted at the clinic by the end of the month.
Every Locum who has visited Cortes has been encouraged to join this team. Even if some of these Locums were unable to commit to joining the Group Practice, we may possibly see them return again as Locums.
Many communities in BC are struggling to fill rural physician positions, and this is one of the first pilots to fill a single position with a Group Practice. Having a year round team responsible for the Cortes practice will offer better consistency of care than the previous pattern of short term Locum assignments, and will offer a broader range of skills and choice than the traditional model of a single doctor.
The new Group Practice model that has evolved is a result of many months of effort and collaboration between the individual doctors, the CCHA and Island Health. We ask the community to offer a warm welcome to the new team.
