As many of you may already have heard Dayna Davis, our primary teacher, will be on sabbatical for the 2015-2016 school year. She will be missed dearly, but we anxiously await her return. In her stead, I am pleased and excited to welcome Ms Morgan Shearer. Morgan will be working in the K-2 class this year, continuing to share the class, as did Dayna, with Ms Duketow. Below is a brief autobiography by Ms. Shearer:
As the Kindergarten to grade 2 teacher for the upcoming school year, I am looking forward to getting to know and work with the Cortes community.
The 2015-2016 school year will be my first on Cortes Island. Last year, I taught grade one at Glenlyon Norfolk School in Victoria BC as well as completing Master's of Education.
My teaching career began at University of Victoria where I earned my Bachelor's of Elementary Education in 2009. Afterwards, I moved to London, England where I taught grade 3 as well as French as a Second Language for grades 2-6 for just over a year. The following three years I worked in Hong Kong as a teacher at an IB candidacy school. Living and working abroad was an invaluable experience. Not only did it allow me to work with students and hone my craft, it also gave me the opportunity to travel and learn about different cultures and learning styles. Outside of travel and teaching, I enjoy dancing and new experiences. I am excited to be working on Cortes and making a new home!
