Cortes Island's first-ever Bike Fair on Saturday was one wild scene, attracting hordes of velofanciers from as far away as Whaletown, and beyond.
Crowds turned out to cheer the daredevil SlowBike Slug Race: a thrilling display of patience, forebearance and balance in which over a dozen sluggish riders competed to see who could be the last to cross the finish line. The winner (an intrepid young woman who shall remain anonymous) carried off the coveted Winged Snail trophy for her skills.
Kudos to the Cortes Bike Gang's crack pit crew of worthy wrenches, who fixed many a flat tire and coaxed many a rusty gear cable into submission. If your steed is still needs some love, call Dandy Horse at 6646 to get your ride sorted out.
Way big ups to the purveyors of fine snax, bike decorators, setters-up and tearers-down, and to everyone who showed up to shmooze, cruise, and revel in the simple joy of self-propelled transport.
Summer's here Cortes – time to join the Bike Gang and let 'er ROLL!
