The busy season is upon us once again, and with summer residents and tourists returning to the island comes an increased demand for appointments at the Health Centre. Here are a couple of simple ways we can all help improve access to medical care and ensure that everyone gets to see a practitioner on a timely basis, not just in the summer, but year round.
•Don’t be a “NO SHOW”. If you can’t make your appointment, please call and let us know ahead of time (24 hrs notice preferably). That way, we can fill your spot with someone who needs to see a practitioner.
•Better manage prescription renewals. Appointments are required to renew all prescriptions. We get a lot of last minute/urgent requests for this type of appointment. Such requests can disrupt and delay appointments for patients with immediate medical issues. So please, let’s try to manage our medications better, by calling to schedule an appointment for refills at least 2 weeks before medications run out. Booking ahead is a courtesy that helps the Health Centre and the patient community.
Thanks to all members of the community for their understanding and cooperation. Together we can ensure we all get the care we need when we need it.
