Erika is on a slow road of recovery from a severe case of pneumonia, complicated by her scleroderma condition. Nutrients are still fed through a tube that enters through the nose and feeds directly to the stomach. Her swallowing capabilities however have improved so that she is now able to drink and swallow clear liquids, i.e. juice, coffee, etc. Also, her voice cords are functioning better so that she can now be understood. We both are deeply grateful for the help and support the Cortes Community has provided. Erika will remain hospitalized for about 3 more weeks, until she can properly swallow semi-solid food and send it in the right direction. She is now in a more spacious room on second floor #231, complete with several visitor chairs. So if you are near the hospital, a brief drop-in is always welcome. Next to her room is a large observation window where one can watch the construction process of the new hospital.
