Well Folks, It’s finally gonna’ happen! When the ferry schedule was changed on Apr. 28th of last year, it didn’t take long to realize it wasn’t going to work. There were problems staying on time, problems with Cortesians being left behind because the Quadra ferry was late, overloads starting after the mid day break, commuters scrambling to adjust their life after losing the 6:15pm sailing etc etc.! The list goes on and on. We tried to convince BC Ferries in June that it wasn’t working but they opted to wait “until the fall” (their words) to gather more data.
So, we met in November to try and come up with a new schedule that would work better for most people. We were under no illusions that we would be able to satisfy everyone. And, sure enough, we haven’t. But, I think I can safely say that we have come up with a schedule that will work much better for the majority. Please find below an attachment showing the new schedule. It is not exactly the same as the option 2B that was circulated earlier. The times in red on Saturday and Sunday are the changes that BCF made at the last minute, and the numbers beside them are the previous times.
We have been asked to see if we can change the Sat. and Sun 7:05am sailing to 7:00am. I have put the question to BCF and I’m waiting for an answer. I’m also waiting to find out when this will come into effect. I asked for Feb.1st and was told too early. They suggested Apr.1st and we said not soon enough. My guess is somewhere in the middle. I’ll let you know.
