Dear BC Hydro:
re: account number 5519 945, billing at September 22, Laurel Bohart.
I had a very unsatisfactory conversation with your represtative recently. I assume that, as he’s the only phone number on your bill, that he speaks with full authority for you. I told him at the end of the call that I didn’t feel I should have to pay a bill based on an outragous estimate. He replied that that was “my prerogative”. After I hung up I realised that I wasn’t clear whether BC Hydro will continue to provide me with service if I don’t pay my bill. I would appreciate if you would clarify this for me. The estimated bill is three times the previous bill, when the meter was read, and based on a usage twice that of the previous bill, and 50% higher than the same period last year. For us it’s a lot of money. Last year my bills were estimated for a full year. “Your bill shows an estimate.” is in rather small print and is easy to overlook. Nor is an “estimate” an accurate record of a household’s hydro use. I received a letter from you last year that seemed to imply that it was my fault that you couldn’t read my meter.
You insisted on installing a smart meter which has never worked here, and then you don’t sent out people to properly read it. I don’t see how your failure can possibly be my fault. As you are a monopoly, I have no choices but the ones you give me. As your representative could not read my meter from his location, and I told him that I didn’t think it was my job to read it for him, he said there was nothing he could do for me. So I am telling you that I object to being gouged! Send me a proper “meter read” bill and I will gladly pay it.
