Vancouver Island Regional Library is excited to announce that a brand new, colourful children’s library card is hitting the shelves on October 27th at all Vancouver Island Regional Library branches! This free library card is available to any child, ages 0-12 years old, including those with existing library cards or those who have never had a library card before.
The new card, which features fun west coast artwork by local BC artist and children’s illustrator, Mike Deas, is designed to inspire children to visit their local library and to begin an adventure full of discovery, learning and creativity! The new card gives access to the same great books and services as the previous children’s card, including:
- Thousands of picture books, DVDs, CDs and audiobooks;
- Kindergarten themed kits that contain a wealth of resources for parents, caregivers, educators and children;
- Homework Help databases to enhance children’s learning;
- Access to large online collection of animated, talking picture books which teach young children the joys of reading;
- Downloadable eBooks, audiobooks, movies and so much more!
Literacy development starts early and from the time that they are infants, children start working on skills that will help them on successful learning experiences in school, on personal development, and on future participation in society. Vancouver Island Regional Library has designed a special card and children’s services to support their curiosity as they begin their adventures in formal learning.
The children’s library card is a passport to adventure and knowledge, and starts with a visit to one of your local Vancouver Island Regional Library branches!
