General News · 28th June 2014
I am glad to report to the community of Cortes Island, all my friends and supporters, that on June 15th I reached the finish line of the 2014 Conquer Cancer Campaign ride from Vancouver to Seattle. It was something I had been training for many months on the steep hills of Cortes Island. The will was always strong but at times I doubted that I could really pull off an approximately 240 Km ride at my tender age. What kept me going was the realisation that my challenge was so infinitesimal when compared with that of so many people afflicted with cancer. During the ride it was a real energy boost for me to see riders with a small flag on their bike. These were the people who survived this disease, they made it and were now contributing for the good of others who would have to face the hardship of fear, uncertainty, and treatments they knew so well. Amazing!!!!
Our team of 65 volunteers, raised over 200,000$. The whole event contributed over 9 millions dollars to cancer research.
To all who helped me reach my goal, to Diana and Edward who signed me up, to the riding team, to those who contributed and cheered me along with the $3,852 in donations (you know who you are) to Claude who volunteered to train with me, and to Paola and my family who supported me and worried for me, my sincere thanks and gratitude.
