This is Canadian roots music with a major make-over. Crack songwriting, brilliant and warped arrangements and stunning instrumental solos unite under the banner of a savvy eclecticism that's always been the band's guiding light. The Wheat in the Barley pulls together a lot of great influences into one package: Celtic, Slavic, French Canadian, Yiddish, Cajun and more. With an impressive array of instruments at their command and a high-energy songlist, they put on a show that's as danceable as it is listenable.

“What do you have to do to follow an act like that? Set your beard on fire??”
(Valdy)

After nearly 5 years off-island, Vancouver's legendary "Wheaties" are bringing their high-energy folk-funk fusion sound to a concert and dance at Gorge Hall once again on Friday, June 27th. Celtic jigs and reels combine with Slavic circle dances, scorching Quebecois fiddle tunes, Cajun 2-steps, Maritime chanties, harmonica boogies and sparkling original songs and instrumentals to keep your feet dancing their poor soles off all night long!

Please come and join us for this special "home-coming" (well, okay, but it sure feels like that to us!) to Cortes Island to see so many great friends again. Tickets are just $15 in advance from Squirrel Cove Store, Cortes Market, Natural Food Co-op, or the Gorge Marina, or $18 at the door. Special prices for families, and kids under 12 are only $5. (Info: Call Denise or Ron at 935-8595) There will be door prizes too, so hold onto your advance ticket stub!

They'll have 2 new CDs with them on this tour, with more on the way. Don't miss this one -- it may a few years till we can get back here, and we're not on iTunes! There will be snacks and other treats galore, and maybe a special guest or two. Cortes sure has enough great musicians around to jam with.

For more info, live concert movies, CD track samples and other treats, please visit our website at http://wheatinthebarley.com. See you soon!
