Gorge Harbour Marina
Gorge Harbour Marina would like to give a big hurrah to the dedicated volunteers who have worked tirelessly for close to 20 years to secure the Island Timberlands parcel, better known as the Whaletown Commons , for park land. We also want to voice or appreciation to Island Timberlands for negotiating in good faith and settling on a fair price for both parties.
For those of us who live in Whaletown, this has been a special place that we have been able to enjoy year round. For the guests visiting the Marina, this is their favorite spot to get out and see one of Cortes Islands greatest assets. We estimate close to 1000 guests take this park walk in each season, its easy access and natural beauty are a gift that we are proud to share.
It is our opinion that the opportunity, for us as an island , to save this land for a park should not be missed . We realize there are people who are not fully supportive of this purchase and those opinions are valid and need to be respected. We all live here, we all want what is best for the island and for the people who call this home. It is our hope that on June 17th we come together as a group , to work together, and to find solutions.
A lot of hard work and dedication from a small group has brought us to where we are now, we hope that the rest of us will be there to help them realize this dream.
