Leila Frances Helena Campbell, born December 15, 1936, beloved wife and mother, followed Allan at home on Cortes Island, British Columbia, in the care of daughter and son, on March 25, 2014. She leaves a family she grew to be happy and strong and is remembered fondly by daughter Lisa, son-in-law Sylvain, grandchildren Cloe’ and Matisse, son John, daughter-in-law Jo-Ann and grandchildren Asa and Lachlan. Leila met many people over her lifetime, touched most of them somehow and made many long-time friends in travels near and far. She persevered through a few hard times, seized the many good ones and wrung the heart out of them, enjoyed family and friends, and life in general. Forever the gardener, Leila nurtured many people, animals and plants…most of them knew it. She enjoyed a good salad and a fresh peach, a good martini and a laugh. She relished the rare bit of slapstick comedy, Peter Sellers, dad falling off his boat. She enjoyed a good malaprop and authored several. She had wide skills as mother, manager, artist, astrologer, friend, counsellor, hostess and peacemaker. She indulged Allan in his travels through the beautiful landscapes and shared the many gifts and the burdens of the journey. The end of the journey was Cortes Island, that small jewel in Desolation Sound that Leila loved so much and refused to leave, where she and Allan made a whole new family of friends. Leila would want to thank the many friends and relatives who provided support over these last few months and would surely wish happiness and good fortune to all of you, and want you to know how she enjoyed the knowing. In lieu of flowers, Leila would be profoundly grateful for any donation that benefits under-privileged people or other animals, especially the four-legged types. Lisa and John are planning a celebration for Leila and Allan to be held on Cortes in August 2014, details to follow.
