As an Executive member of the CIBATA board I want to respond to the recent article written by Wendy Legare about our board’s letter to the Provincial Government stating our opposition to the recent ferry announcements and our involvement in the Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show in Vancouver this coming weekend.
CIBATA’s mission is to help create a viable sustainable local economy that will benefit everyone.
We, like most others, feel that the current business model being used for BC Ferries is a detriment to that goal, and we feel it is important that the government hears that from as many coastal communities as possible.
Our Involvement in the Vancouver Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show is one way we are hoping we can help attract eco conscious tourists to Cortes and helps us to create that viable economy we all desire. We do not feel we are presenting a mixed message, in fact, we feel that our efforts to create a viable economy through our involvement in Trade Shows can only be made easier if the Provincial Government realizes the challenges BC Ferries creates for communities like Cortes.
