ron croda,CCHA Board Secretary
The Directors of the Cortes Island Community Health Association met with Enid Ohara, Manager of Rural Services for Island Health (formerly VIHA) 3 weeks ago and she reaffirmed Island Health's commitment to posting a nurse practitioner (NP) on Cortes as early as possible in the new year. CCHA and our doctor will have input into who is hired.
The NP will live here and work about half time at our clinic, also providing fill-in services for other rural clinics and so, may come and go to fulfill that portion of the position. Given the utilization numbers here Island Health feels that a full time position cannot be justified.
The CCHA is sensitive to the wishes of many patients to have the position maintained and we will do our best to fulfill this desire.
When there is something more to report on this we will place a notice in Tideline to keep the community informed.
Thank you all for your patience and continued support of your medical clinic.
