Subject: seniors discount
I have dialup. I don't see 'seniors discount' on the lead page of your 'discussion guide'. If the 50% discount is off the regular rate, then for Cortes (not on your list of stops), it would be 20% off of the Experience rate. Could you confirm this, and tell me where this is in
the "discussion guide"?
Received December 3:
Dear Mr. Bohart,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the coastal ferries engagement.
The seniors discount program which currently offers a 100% passenger discount Monday to Thursday on all routes, except the northern routes, will be reduced to a 50% discount effective April 1, 2014. Seniors travelling on the northern routes will continue to receive a 33% discount on the passenger fare throughout the week.
The change to the seniors discounts will mean that seniors will pay 50% of the regular passenger fare on Monday to Thursday. If seniors are paying for travel with an experience card, they will receive a 50% discount on the passenger fare that would normally be charged on an experience card.
The Province will re-direct all savings to the Ferry Transportation Fee that BC taxpayers pay to defray BC Ferries’ expenses, thereby reducing the pressure for fare increases beginning in 2016.
I hope this helps to clarify the change to the seniors discount program.
