Cortes Literacy Outreach
A few of the nearby Literacy Outreach Coordinators (from Cortes, Quadra, Campbell River, and maybe Sayward or Gold River) are applying for a grant from the Canadian Council for the Arts, which would help to fund a short four-stop book tour.
If you have a favourite author to recommend, I'd love to be in touch with them to see if they'd be interested, assuming we can get the grant. We can host more than one author on the tour, if we get funded.
The grant requests that the authors not be local to our area, but because they don't give that much in the way of a funding honorarium, I was thinking it might make the most sense to ask authors from BC, so all of their travel expenses would still be covered easily.
• Invited writers must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
• Writers must have professionally published at least one eligible book before the application deadline.
• Illustrators of children’s books are eligible provided they have illustrated the complete text of an eligible book.
• Literary translators are eligible provided they give a joint reading with the original writer of an eligible translated book.
Eligible books and genres
An eligible book is one that the writer has written in one or more of the following literary genres: novels, short stories, poetry, drama, children’s and young adults’ literature, graphic novels or literary non-fiction.
