From the bottom of my heart, congratulations to all of you that have been involved in the Cortes Community Forest project. It has been a very long endeavour, more than twenty years, and finally it is now a reality.
My deepest respect and admiration to Kathy Francis, Bruce Ellingsen, Delores Broten, David Shipway and others that have been there from day one.
The collaboration between Klahoose First Nation and the Cortes community has been the key ingredient in this project.
I believe that Persistence, Patience and Love, lots of love, are the other basic ingredients for the success of this project.
Through all these years, hundreds of us have participated in one form or another, with work, ideas, money, nonviolent demonstrations, and more, much more.
Now, it is time to put all these ideas and plans into practice and demonstrate that it is possible to log the forests with respect and wisdom, without destroying them and at the same time helping with building resiliency to the island communities.
No doubt the future is brighter than ever in Cortes Island!
