Description of the CNSP:
In February of 2014, School District 72 will be offering a new program for Grade 10,11, and 12 students who are interested in the Nautical Sciences. The Carihi Nautical Sciences Program meets many district and ministry goals and will take the form of a small, non-profit business where students will learn aspects of sailing from appraisal and repair of sailboats to safety and navigation on the water.
This innovative program will provide students the opportunity to acquire recognized certifications and academic skills in an alternate setting. Taking a team approach that reflects a true workplace focussed on different people working together to achieve a common goal, students will learn the practical application of skills in order to be successful. One of our district goals is to work with community organizations and businesses to enhance the experience for the student. Community members will be involved in giving workshops and lectures among other contributions to the program.
