On July 27th, 2013, the Cortes Museum is sponsoring a cruise to Desolation Sound aboard the beautiful MISTY ISLES.
Desolation Sound is a favourite destination for boaters from all over the Pacific Northwest. Its many inlets, islets, coves, and bays support a wide variety of wildlife, and comprise the Desolation Sound Provincial Marine Park. This deep-water sound is also well-known for its spectacular fjords and dramatic mountains, as well as for its history as the anchorage for British and Spanish explorers of the late 1700s.
Thanks to skipper/naturalist Mike Moore, participants on this July 27th, Museum-sponsored cruise will hear stories about the First Nations people & the Age of Exploration, as well as gain knowledge about the marine & topographic features of this beautiful sound.
MISTY ISLES departs Cortes Bay 10:30am, & returns by 5:00pm. The fee for this adventure is $120 per person, including tax.
Other Cortes Museum-sponsored trips this summer include: a trip around Maurelle Island (August 9th), a cruise to Cassel Lake waterfall in Teakerne Arm (August 14th), and a second sail to Desolation Sound (August 24th).
