Dear Co-op Members
The CNFC AGM is coming up soon, and that means the selection of a Board to guide the co-op through 2013/14.
Our Rules of Association specify that at least two Directors must be appointed to serve for two years before stepping down (to ensure continuity from one year to the next). Last year we weren't able to fulfil that requirement, but we would like to return to our official policy this year. Of our existing Board, we have nominated Josee Gagnon (Co-op staff member and President) and De Clarke (Co-op member and Treasurer) to continue for another year. Madhurima Braaten and Theresa Hargrave are willing to serve again; Kelly Wand would like to step down as Secretary, needing more time for life outside the Co-op.
Our maximum Board size is set by our Rules at 9 people; the minimum size is 5. This means that we will have from 3 to 6 vacant seats on our Board as of the AGM. We'd like to encourage members to consider signing up for a 2-year term (we're looking for 2 people to do this) or a 1-year term.
If you have a lot of experience in co-ops and social enterprises, or of serving on Boards; if you've done some time in retail grocery; if you're a farmer or grower who sells produce at the store; or you're just passionate about affordable healthy food (and yummy bakery treats) for Cortes Islanders... you might be just the person the Co-op needs on its Board! Please give it some thought; feel free to email us (boardcortescoop.ca) and have a chat if you're unsure about what's involved.
Also on the agenda: food and fun! You can pick up tickets at the store for pizza and a raffle. The Co-op belongs to you, the members; come to the AGM and let your Board know how we're doing and where you'd like to go from here!
