Cortes Island Seafest Saturday May 18
From 11:30 until 4:00 ish at Squirrel Cove Commons. Tickets are $18.00, $5.00 for a second round. The recipes are chosen and the grocery lists are in! Come to SEAFEST 2013 on Saturday May 18 at Squirrel Cove on Cortes Island and enjoy seafood favourites & new oyster dishes:
New oyster recipes:
"Red Pepper Poppers" Oysters in a roasted red pepper sauce - a hint of smoky sweet and spicy smoothed with Parmesan - drizzled over oysters dusted with Italian herb flour and pan-fried.
"Jumped up Jalapeno" A delicate hot sauce of pickled Jalapenos and Dijon mustard with a hint of sugar and apple cider vinegar over oysters knapped in buttermilk and fried in cornmeal powder, then topped with minced shallot.
"Oysters Motoyaki" on the barbecue in a half shell of creamy miso and Sambai Oelek chili garlic sauce.
Well loved favourites:
"Del's favourite" oysters glazed in lime marmalade and stone ground mustard;
Oysters Rockefeller prepared by the Sawmill Bay Co team from Quadra;
"That prawn recipe" with Thai sweet chili sauce, water chestnuts and cucumbers;
Mussels from Island Sea Farms & Clams steamed with stories by Brent Petkau.
On the side:
Romaine salad, steam fried noodles, slivered almonds and artisan garlic bread from the Cortes Natural Food Co-op.
Entertainment for adults and children will be at the Seafest. Pirates, mermaids and others will show up to entertain you, your family and friends. Come early, stay late! Enjoy the music, the food, the entertainment and the people. Browse the craft store and visit with friends.

Additional: Klahoose First Nation offers salmon and fry bread prepared with traditional and family recipes. The Cortes Craft Store opens the store for the season. The island teen organization TeenZene will be offering non-sea food and soft drinks.
The festival is becoming known for the live music played throughout the day, the desert and craft tables, the spectacular beach setting looking out to Desolation Sound, and of course, for the food.
