Kel Kelly Wears A Different Hat!
Many Cortes Islanders know Kel Kelly from his work with a variety of local groups on a number of issues - as a civil disobedience instructor, as a mediator, as a politician (in recovery!) and as a community activist.
Few know of Kel's life as a musician. For many years he toured local community halls with the rock band, Flying Debris, keeping the country folk up late, and dancing.
For the last several years, Kel has locked himself in his room with his guitars, pen and notebook and has been busy writing songs.
"These songs are ready to come out now", he says. Reflecting the realities of Kel's life as a community partner with tribal cultures in the remote North East Frontier of India, his travels to obscure and beautiful places, his family connections to old world Europe, being a father, grandfather and lover - the songs are a record of a journey of the heart.
"They range from angry-at-the state-of-the world shouts to quiet lullabies for grandchildren", he says. "I don't think you could say I play one style of music. But they are all a reflection of my heart."
