Cortes Island Tourism (CITA)
Meeting for all Tourism related businesses
Please come or consider sending an alternate for your business if you can’t attend, or send your ideas with another member. Please tell anyone you know with tourism related businesses and urge them to come even if they have not attended before.
A vote was taken at the last meeting of the Discovery Islands Chamber of Commerce (DICC) in favour of the motion that CITA become a standing committee of DICC. This will enable CITA to operate under the umbrella of DICC for access to grant funding, member benefits, networking and promotional opportunities. Dues will be payable to DICC in order to participate, and we now must vote on a structure for CITA dues.
We did receive a $2000 Grant-in-Aid from the Regional District (a huge thank you to Sandra and Noba and the RD). The grant was earmarked for marketing projects, especially a website, and was the only funding available to us without being under the umbrella of a formal Association such as DICC.
We now urgently need a meeting of CITA attended by as many members and interested parties as possible to discuss the next steps, projects, and plans for the upcoming season. We plan to elect/appoint a formal executive/marketing committee (1 committee, or 2 separate committees) with authority to take direction and to make decisions on behalf of ALL members. A meeting is set for 3:00 P.M. in the Pioneer Room at Manson’s Hall on Thursday March 7th. Noba will attend and facilitate the process. She will also outline economic & environmental funding opportunities that she has identified as appropriate and advantageous for CITA.
1)to “elect/appoint” an executive/marketing committee (one committee, or 2 separate ) and to give it/them specific authority to make decisions on behalf of the group as a whole (we envision that all “committee meetings would also be “open”)
2)to authorize the Committee to hire a website designer/writer (1 or 2 people) AND to decide on the general direction that we wish to go with the website (and rack card?) to avoid overlap and duplication of effort with existing Cortes sites
3)to formalize a CITA dues structure for 2013
4)to consider setting a monthly or quarterly (or?) meeting day that does not vary - so we can all plan
5)to receive information and discuss action on the opportunities that Noba has identified and also on a grant opportunity identified through DICC
