Mr. Bealing, as an operator of a tourist business on Cortes Island I have been following the possible logging with great interest. You are correct when you state that we do need to attract tourists to the island, it is the main source of employment that we now have. I am also extremely encouraged that you realize the type of logging depicted in the posting showing Island Timberlands operation at McLaughlin Ridge , would “ scare” away tourists. For me this is the challenge I see ahead of us. If Island Timberlands has followed the code of ethics that the PFLA has laid out , and adhered to all government regulations in their logging of McLaughlin Ridge, then I can only surmise that this type of logging could very well happen here. If it was I am happy that you and I both agree that tourists would be scared away. Maybe this is an opening to discuss ways to ensure this does not happen here.
