Last spring, a group of local businesses got together to form the Cortes Island Tourism Association. The aim of the group is to promote Cortes as a unique recreation destination and to support a vibrant, healthy local economy. We also felt that promoting the island with a unified voice would be more effective than individual businesses doing their own advertising. To this end a website was quickly developed with the idea that this site would become the primary source for any information that a potential visitor might need to plan a stay on Cortes. Information on accommodations, hiking trails, where to eat, guided activities, local attractions, services, festivals and events all would be easily accessible from the website.
The Tourism Association is now looking ahead to next season. We need to complete the website and look at ways to promote Cortes Island. Our next meeting is at 1pm on December 11th, at the Co-op Café. The meeting is open to anyone with an interest in putting Cortes Island on the tourism map.
